| From growing up on a farm in Southern Kenton County to being a radio host on the Big One 700 WLW, Eric Deters has made quite a name for himself, literally. “The Bulldog,” as you may know him seems to be everywhere in the Tri-State. The Cincinnatus Standard wanted to track him down to see if his bite is as big as his bark. Tony Kruessel: You’ve been a lawyer for 20 years, a published author, owner of multiple businesses and you’ve dabbled in the sport of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). What do you like the most? Eric Deters: I love them all. Law, business and politics are intertwined and there all part of the “Bulldog” brand. I learned from my father, Charlie Deters, that successful attorneys are successful businessmen. However, first and foremost I am an attorney. I love practicing law because I enjoy helping people. Practicing law is like Shakespeare, there is comedy, drama and tragedy involved. Tony Kruessel: You hear complaints about government and politics all the time? Would you ever consider running? Eric Deters: Politics are the same everywhere. Right now I wouldn’t consider running because I want to give radio a chance. I am very grateful to 700 WLW. You can reach more people on the radio and have a bigger impact without the hassle. If I ever do run for office, I would run for something statewide. I wouldn’t rule out moving to Ohio and running there. Tony Kruessel: The healthcare debate has been going on for months. Do you believe we need Healthcare reform? Eric Deters: Healthcare isn’t a right provided by the Constitution. It is a privilege. With that said, I do believe we need healthcare reform to give more people a chance to get affordable healthcare. I think we are moving in the right direction, but I don’t agree with the all or nothing mentality of the current bill being pushed. We need to pass the legislation both parties agree on and move forward from there. Tony Kruessel: Are you a supporter of the Tea Party movement? Eric Deters: Yes very much. I think it’s great that people are taking a stand and wanting fiscal responsibility. The Tea Party goes across the spectrum and has been effective. Look at the Scott Brown election. I think it needs to stay the same and not become a third party. Tony Kruessel: The unemployment rate is still over 9 percent and over 600,000 Ohioans are still looking for work. Do you think the current administration is doing enough to create jobs? Eric Deters: What they are doing and have done isn’t working nearly fast enough. I had a job summit in February and plan on having another coming up in the near future. Over 75 unemployed people showed up to discuss how to create jobs and create their own business. The sad part is that most people don’t have the means to create work for themselves. Everything is affected when you don’t have a job, especially your self esteem. Be sure to listen to “The Bulldog” this weekend on 700 WLW or visit Bulldog's Roadhouse at Newport on the Levee. |
