This month, Cardinal Points will be devoted to two struggles occuring right here in Ohio that you may not have heard about.

There is a battle brewing on Ohio's farms between those who grow and raise our food and those seeking to control what we eat.  That battle has resulted in a ballot issue revoling around how animals that are being raised for food are treated.  Make no mistake, this is not about stopping real abuse, but rather about what products you will be able to find at the supermarket.

To head off the forces that want to restrict your choices (like the Humane Society of the United States), the Ohio Farm Bureau has supported a ballot issue that would create what is being called the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board which would be charged with the responsibility of establishing the standards by which farm animals are to be treated.

It is the position of Cardinal Points that those who are in the profession of raising livestock are probably in the best position to know how those animals should be treated, but understand the threat that the farm community faces with a politically correct enemy at the gates is reason enough to see why they support this initiative.

To learn more about this, check out the
Ohio Farm Bureau piece on the subject and the Senate Joint Resolution legislation.

The other fight that needs your attention is happening in Allen County where citizens are trying to secure signatures on a petition to seek the right to vote on whether or not their sales taxes go up.

This sort of thing is fairly common in Cincinnati thanks to the good work of organizations like COAST, but this is a whole new ballgame in Allen County.  Check out
Your Vote Counts Allen County to learn about how to get involved or to get a sense of what these patriots are doing to keep local taxes down.

Don't think for a minute that the government forces are just rolling over on this one.  There are all sorts of shenanigans going on where county employees (including sheriff deputies) are doing whatever they can to intimidate these folks from exercising their First Amendment rights.

These are just two of the struggles facing Ohioans who just want government to leave them alone.  There are plenty more across our beautiful state.  When you find one, join up and get in the fight.
