O'er many a confusing volume of congressional lore,
That suddenly I realized,That a million pages was the disguise,
For socialist programs by surprise,
.................Twas only this, and nothing more ......
Then I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing,
To the foul deeds they were pressing ....as in days of yore,
And to the facts they were suppressing,
and deceit upon those they promised blessing,
............... This it was, and nothing more ....
Then deep into the darkness peering, long I sat there, wondering, fearing,
Dreaming dreams I had not dared to dream before,
We had let them become power laden, And like the rapist and the maiden,
they will force the ways of the pagan,
............ And try to rule forevermore .......
And tonight, not befitting, they are still there, still there sitting,
In the chairs of our fathers ........ that we did adore,
And their words have all the seeming, of many hidden veils of meaning,
And we must be silent to their scheming ....
......... Nevermore!!
