In September Maureen Dowd wrote a piece on Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) yelling out “You lie!” during a speech made by President Obama to a joint session of the House and Senate. They were there to hear the President yet again trying to sell Obama-care. Rather than discuss what was actually the issue, whether or not the President was lying,  (which he was, and frequently) she turned to the cheapest of political attacks: she leveled a charge of racism at Congressman Wilson.

Now since Joe Wilson did not actually say anything racist, Maureen had to invent it. She claimed when she heard Joe Wilson say “You Lie!” She also heard the word “Boy,” but in her own mind. She claims this is valid because Wilson is from South Carolina, a former slave state. Now Joe Wilson did not utter the word “Boy,” nor does he have a racist record, nevertheless this began a firestorm among the chattering class talking about how race is playing a factor in opposition to the things Obama proposes to do.  They completely ignore the legitimacy of opposing Obama on the ideological grounds that he is taking the nation towards Marxism, and the color of his skin plays no role in this issue.

Within days of this, former President Jimmy Carter jumped into the subject saying the opposition was about race, and even lied when he claimed he saw opponents waving signs that said “Bury Obama with Kennedy.” The sign he saw actually said “Bury Obama-care with Kennedy”. However the liberal Mainstream Media had no interest in correcting him; after all, they were still doing their best to ignore the event where the sign was seen.

Congressman Hank Johnson, who replaced Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, commented on the Wilson remarks by suggesting it would encourage people to put on hoods and white uniforms and ride the countryside.

The idiocy of the comment, and considering who preceeded him in the seat, compels me to make an inquiry of the good people in the fourth Congressional district of Georgia.  Hey Y’all, is there anyone other than crazed, barking moonbats residing down there?

In this same time frame, other things were also taking place. A couple of intrepid reporters from BigGovernment.com posing as a pimp (James O’Keefe) with political aspirations and his prostitute (Hannah Giles) went into the offices of ACORN in Baltimore, Maryland and shot some amazing secret video in a hidden camera. I won’t go into great detail because by now everyone should have seen this video, even Charlie Gibson of ABC.  However in the event you were under a rock or at ABC News, in a nutshell ACORN workers advise on how to get a loan for the house to be used as a brothel, and how to deal with the IRS and taxes. This, despite the fact the reporters made very clear their criminal intent and that they intended to bring in underage girls from Central America.  ACORN naturally cried foul, this was a fluke and threatened to sue.

I loved how Mr. O’Keefe responded. He then the proceeded to release another video, this time shot in our Nation’s capitol, Washington DC. Much the same thing happened. Advice given and not a flinch at the facts the “pimp” and “hooker” put forward. Again ACORN cried foul, they would sue BigGovernment.com as well as Fox News for running the story. O’Keefe then released the New York office video. Same scenario with the same results. A couple days later they released another video in the San Bernardino office; not only did they get advice, the lady there regaled them with the tale of how she killed her ex-husband with a gun.

The Fox News channel covered this in some detail. Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity devoted a lot of time from their programs, running lengthy parts of the video on their shows. The Mainstream Media however ignored it. Even after the Baltimore, DC and NY City videos had run and nearly a week had passed, Charlie Gibson of ABC was asked about the videos on a radio show in Chicago. What did Charlie Gibson say? “I did not even know about it, you have got me at a loss.” He had no idea what they were talking about.. This despite the fact the night before the US Senate had voted to cut Federal funding to ACORN because of what was exposed on those videos.

Now keep in mind, Gibson is the reporter who tried to make Sarah Palin look like an out-of-touch, ill-informed ditz by asking her about the Bush Doctrine and then attacking the answer she gave. Gibson is part of a major news organization and he was clueless about a pattern of corruption within ACORN, a community-organizing group closely allied to the Obama administration. Stunning, but not unique at all, the networks and MSNBC were still ignoring the story at that point. Only CNN had said anything but only in the a few short stories on the subject without great detail.

The media is now finally talking a bit about the ACORN scandal and how dastardly and underhanded the secret camera was… Right.  I think 60 Minutes on CBS perfected that tactic in the 1970s, and the media never seems to think it is sneaky when they take a camera into a gun show (clearly posted no cameras) to try to dig up dirt. Please spare me your hypocrisy on this subject.

During the Weekend of the ACORN scandal, throngs of Americans descended on Washington DC. The numbers are still in dispute; the British press (Daily Mail) say as many as two million people attended, the US Capitol Police say 70,000, but still more than attended Obama’s inaugural and much larger than the turnout for the vaunted “Million Man March” and “ Million Mom March” which all got heavy coverage from the liberal press when those took place. Glenn Beck, who spearheaded the 9-12 project, covered the event live on Fox News as did C-Span. The rest of the media pretty much ignored it. Now I want you to look at the video link I am going to provide. Keep in mind this is just the crowd going up Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol Building. This does not touch the crowds heading up Constitution Avenue or already walking the Mall from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol building.

President Obama himself got to see the size of the crowd as Marine One flew him to Andrews AFB so he could go to Minnesota to push Obama-care. That event in Minnesota, with a very small crowd, was covered live by several cable news networks, while they virtually ignored or misreported the size of the DC Tea Party later in the day.

This is pattern of ignoring what is bad news for liberals is hardly unique. On September 6th 2009 the folks who only get their news from ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN the New York Times, Washington Post etc… were stunned to learn that Green Jobs Czar Van Jones was forced to resign for his controversial behavior.  It may well have been the first time they had ever heard of the man. However if you were a regular watcher of Fox News or read the Washington Times, you knew his head was going to roll sooner rather than later. You also are aware of the problems the other Obama Czars are facing, things that the folks relying on the Mainstream press have no clue about.

Here lies our teachable moment. Not really for you dear reader, as I suspect if you are reading this, you are already getting your news from reliable and responsible sources. No, this lesson is for the Mainstream press. Pay attention to the tangible things that are actually happening rather than covering at length and ad nauseam the pathetic racist fantasies of liberals; you will look less foolish that way.
